Independent Living Support Assistant vacancies

A variety of support assistant positions are available within the Swansea area supporting individuals to live as independently as possible. Our clients can be of all ages, backgrounds and disabilities.

The people we support are looking to employ dedicated, hard-working individuals who really do want to make a difference to their lives. 

Whether you have previously worked within health and social care as a support worker or care assistant or are looking for a complete change of career, the people we support believe that everyone has something to offer, and believe that life skills, the right values, attitude and genuine desire to help them improve their lives are the most important characteristics of a support worker.

It may be useful if you had a driving licence and access to a car in order to support people to enjoy the activities of their choice; however, this shouldn't stop you from applying as some people do not require this.

Your duties will include:

  • Interacting and communicating with the people you support in a way that promotes independence, dignity and respect.
  • Supporting people to live an everyday life. 

Your duties could also include:

  • Helping the person you support to engage with their families, friends and wider community.
  • Manual handling, cooking and assisting with personal care.

Your hours will be agreed between yourself and your employer (usually the person you support), who may require you to work flexible shifts, which may include some weekends and bank holidays. Their precise requirements will be discussed at interview, although we will do our best to match your preferences before interview.

The rewards

The rate of pay will be negotiated between you and your employer. You can normally be expected to receive £8.21 - £10.50 per hour per hour.

You will be required to provide evidence of identity and eligibility to work in the UK. Also, if you do not hold a current DBS certificate, or if your employer requires a DBS check to be renewed, the cost of the DBS check will be borne by the City and County of Swansea. City and County of Swansea will also ask you to sign up for portable DBS service, which again will be borne by the City and County of Swansea. 

If you do have a current DBS certificate, you will need to issue your employer the date of issue, certificate number and expiry date.
